Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
If a patient's insurance requires a referral, they can have their primary care office fax a referral to the Referral Access Center at (207) 621-5517 or self-refer by call the RAC at 1 (833) 481-6462 or 1 (833) 4U@MGMC.
What you can expect at your first appointment
- You will complete a registration form and medical history if you didn't receive one by mail.
- We will verify your demographic and insurance information.
- A medical assistant will bring you into an exam room where you may be asked to change into a gown or pair of shorts we provide.
- The physician will meet with you and order X-rays if needed.
- Once the X-ray images are ready, the physician will meet with you to discuss your diagnosis and treatment options.
Where are surgeries performed?
We perform surgery at the Alfond Center for Health (ACH) in Augusta and Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. Procedures that require an overnight stay are performed at the ACH, as are more complex cases that may not require hospital admission.
What happens if I have an emergency need?
One of our doctors is on call 24/7 for emergencies. If you call our answering service, you may ask to have the doctor call you back. If you're in medical distress, please call 911 instead.
Don't call the doctor on call for routine prescription refills; monitor your pain medicine supply and plan accordingly. Call our office Monday through Thursday for medication refills.
Is prior authorization needed for my surgery?
All insurances have different requirements for prior authorizations. Check with your insurance company to learn if your procedure requires authorization.
