MaineGeneral Health’s Day of Hope Celebration and Fundraiser Yields $205,000
MaineGeneral Health’s annual Day of Hope took place today, Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Augusta Civic Center. More than 1,000 people came together to celebrate area cancer survivors and fighters and their caregivers.
Walk for Hope Marshals were Arlene Mclean and Heather Moore, cancer survivors and Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care employees. The two were featured at the inspirational opening ceremony before attendees began the 1.8-mile Walk for Hope. So far, $205,000 has come in through pledges and donations. All proceeds stay local to support the expansion of the cancer center.
In addition to the opening ceremony and walk, the event featured health screenings and education, a healthy cooking demonstration, a Kid Zone and other activities.
