Silica Medical Evaluations
OSHA began enforcing the respirable crystalline silica standard for construction on Sept. 23, 2017, while offering compliance assistance to employers making good-faith efforts to comply during the first 30 days.
The standard requires employers to offer medical exams – including chest X-rays and lung function tests – every three years for workers who are required by the standard to wear a respirator 30 or more days a year.
Workplace Health provides medical services designed to help meet the standard including:
- Review of silica questionnaire (replaces respirator questionnaire)
- Clearance examination
- Chest X-ray with B-read
- Spirometry
- TB test
