Hand Therapy
If you have a hand, wrist or elbow injury, the MaineGeneral Occupational Therapy team and its certified hand therapists are here to help!
What is Hand Therapy?
Hand therapy is the art and science of evaluating and treating injuries and conditions of the upper extremity:
- Shoulder
- Arm
- Elbow
- Forearm
- Wrist
- Hand
Hand therapy uses various therapeutic interventions to help return a person to their highest level of function. To achieve the credentials as a certified hand therapist (CHT), a therapist must have at least three years of experience and more than 4,000 hours of treatment time specifically on hand and upper extremity injuries.
Certified hand therapists have passed a national exam demonstrating their advanced skill and knowledge in treating hand and upper extremity injuries. Additionally, they must recertify and complete continued professional development regularly.
