What is Manual Therapy?

Manual Therapy is one specific strategy MaineGeneral's physical therapists use to help you achieve your goals. Specifically, it involves the skilled application of hands-on techniques by trained therapist to manipulate soft tissue and joints.

When combined with supportive exercise, joint and soft tissue manipulation has been shown to reduce pain, increase joint mobility and, in turn, improve quality of life.

About Our Team

Several of MaineGeneral's physical therapists have achieved advanced training and certification including:

  • Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP);
  • Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine; and
  • Fellowship-trained as an American Academy of Orthopeaedic Manual Physical Therapist (AAOMPT).
