What is BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable treatment which works by weakening select facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. This allows these lines to soften. The vertical lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines and “crows feet” around the eyes can all be treated.
The treatment is an elective procedure so it is not covered by insurance and the cost is out of pocket.
The effect of BOTOX® can be noticed in just 3 to 5 days, and most patients see a benefit for 3 to 4 months.
Patients often start treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic in their 20s and 30s to treat early wrinkles before they become more noticeable.
BOTOX® can be appropriate for adult patients in good physical health who are not pregnant or nursing.
Before the treatment
BOTOX® treatment includes your initial consultation. Your clinician will combine information from your facial analysis and your personal goals to create an individualized treatment plan.
It is important that each patient’s own anatomy and concerns are taken into account to obtain the best results.
After the treatment
- Downtime is minimal, but it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- Keep upright for 4 hours and do not lie face down for 24 hours.
- Avoid reapplying makeup to the area for the rest of the day
- Do not rub or massage the site for 24 hours.
- Avoid tight hats or headwear that would put pressure on your forehead.
- Some small bumps can be visible at the injections sites. These typically disappear within a few hours.
- Sometimes some minor bruising or headache can occur after treatment.
What if results aren’t what I was expecting?
Patients may have a follow up appointment 2 to 3 weeks after treatment. By that time, the full effect of BOTOX® can be seen and additional treatment can be done if needed.
